From James Kirkland, chief architect, Internet of Things, Red Hat

As one of the members of the IoT working group of Eclipse.org, Red Hat is an active supporter and contributor to several of its projects. The goal of the working group is straightforward: Simplify IoT development through the use of open source.

To entice developers to put their IoT ideas to the test, Eclipse.org is hosting Open IoT Challenge 2.0. Here’s how it works. Contestants apply before November 23. Then, 15 of the best proposals are chosen to continue and given access to sponsor offerings. This is where Red Hat kicks in. As a sponsor of this challenge, we’ll be encouraging contestants to use OpenShift by Red Hat®, Red Hat JBoss® Fuse, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux®, key building blocks in Red Hat’s enterprise architecture for the Internet of Things. We’ll be providing sample code to help contestants build their own IoT solutions, including intelligent gateways, the vital links to successful-and secure-IoT implementations.

1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards are being offered, with prizes that help the winners continue with their IoT innovations. Final submission deadline is February 26, 2016. So, get going, get coding, and good luck.

James
